The Trenton Rotary Club would like to extend a sincere thank you to Cecilia Downey of NJ Sharing Network for joining us at our recent meeting and sharing her knowledge about the lifesaving mission of organ and tissue donation.
Cecilia provided our members with an informative and meaningful look at the work of NJ Sharing Network, New Jersey’s federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization. The organization works around the clock to recover and place donated organs and tissue, support donor families, educate the public, and raise awareness about the incredible impact of donation and transplantation.
One of the most powerful messages from the presentation was just how significant the decision to become a donor can be. According to NJ Sharing Network, one organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of more than 75 others. In 2025 alone, NJ Sharing Network reported 269 organ donors, 693 organs transplanted, and 1,203 tissue and cornea donors.
Beyond the donation process itself, NJ Sharing Network provides compassionate support to donor families, works closely with hospitals and healthcare professionals, conducts community education, and honors the legacies of those who gave the Gift of Life. Their work helps ensure that the generosity of donors and their families continues to make a difference for people in need of lifesaving transplants.
We are grateful to Cecilia for taking the time to speak with Trenton Rotary and for helping our members better understand the importance of organ and tissue donation. Her presentation was a wonderful reminder that a single decision can create a lasting legacy and give someone else the chance at a second opportunity at life.
