Trenton-Omiya Student Cultural Exchange Turns 50
The student exchange program between the Rotary Clubs of Trenton, NJ and Omiya, Japan turned 50.
Each summer since 1969, the two Rotary Clubs have alternated hosting 2-4 students from the sending Club’s families. It has provided an outstanding opportunity for increasing understanding between our two countries as well as giving students a rare opportunity to be immersed in the culture of the exchange country.
Trenton Rotary commissioned local artist Laura Beard to paint an original piece of artwork to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this important international program for both clubs. She used the Golden Dome of the New Jersey State House in Trenton and Omiya’s Hikawa Shinto Shrine entrance to symbolize the two cities.
Trenton Rotary youth ambassadors Emily Navazio, Erika Bullock, Emily Gourovitch, and Miller Cleave presented the gift at a Rotary Club meeting in Omiya, Japan.
